Here’s Les’ shiny new stainless steel exhaust (well, part of it) being fitted to the car later this week. The old one is absolutely shot !!
After 3,870 miles Bobby was a bit dishevelled so he went for a spin in the washing machine !
We were making good time travelling up country from Dover. The Dartford tunnel didn’t hold us up and the M25 was clear (unusually!) Stopped at Bedford to pick up Les’ shiny new exhaust system. Approaching Birmingham Les said “Shall we take the toll road?” I replied “No, there’ll be no traffic at this time of night, surely.” HA HA – How wrong could you be??
Sat in slow moving traffic – inching forward for half an hour or more. Finally got moving again at around 10 pm.
Bobby met some famous people on the ferry – Ernie and Bert (from Sesame Street). They are coming home with us to meet Lucas (our two year old grandson).
Driving up the ramp to get on the ferry at Calais – on our way home at last!!
We think our car was the prettiest in the queue – what do you think?!
Here we are queuing up to get on the ferry.
The big drive home !! Left the hotel in Bourges at 7:30 (GMT) – it was 330 miles to get to Calais in readiness for the ferry back to Old Blighty.
Here we are at passport control – feeling excited to be on our way home. Homesick now and looking forward to seeing family and friends.
“Can we stop taking photos now and go for something to eat??”
So we had chilli con carne and beers – and went back to the hotel for bath and bed. Early start tomorrow and a long journey ahead.
Bourges to Calais and Dover to home – about 700 miles. Not sure if we’ll be able to do it all in one go. So we could be home late Saturday or more likely sometime on Sunday.
